Our Company
Iron Soup Historical Preservation Company is a dedicated effort to save the last Remnant of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube, as well as America's Industrial Revolution period, that is still functioning in its original capacity.
Opened in 1918 the homes were built to house workers for the mill after a city wide riot occurred due to workers revolting against improper living conditions. Company leaders felt that happy workers would be productive ones and built the World's First Modern Estates. Based on the work of Thomas Edison, and other influences of the period the Company Homes were constructed with hot and cold running water, electricity and gas for cooking, and heating both water and home, all when they opened in 1918. Our Mission
To restore the outside facing of these incredible structures to their original glory, and convert the inside living units into ©Envirominiums, the ultimate self sufficient living facility. From LED lighting and technologies never before seen the ©Envirominium should be the standard of modern living, exactly as the Company homes were when the opened in 1918
Our People
Unlike many non-profit organizations, due to the monumental job that is before us, our staff as well as our Board of Directors has been chosen quite differently than most companies.
Our entire Board of Directors, with one exception due to her immense knowledge of, and participation in Historical Renovations, are residents of the site, or are property owners making a major contribution to moving the site forward.
Our volunteer staff is comprised 100% of residents. We have found this method to be the most productive for us as those who live here have much more of an interest and much more at stake than anyone else, therefore we are driven to succeed at a different level.
Further motivated by the prospect of creating the World's First ©Envirominiums along with fully functional Urban Agricultural Resources and self sustaining aquatics, membership in our community is well worth the tremendous amount of hard work and effort we put in.
