Envirominiums The Self-Sustaining Answer.
Specifications for creating self supporting living environments.
Introduction
The technologies revealed herein are the result of research and study done our test site which allows for unique advantages which will be covered in this report.
A synopsis of features and technologies
contained within.
· Quadraficient© Power Production systems – Our combined, Solar, Wind, Hydroelectric, and Thermal/Geothermal power system works in concert to produce the most power available from Non-Invasive Natural Resources. Quadraficient© Power production and management techniques work in with the heating, cooling and water system designs to maximize power production and minimize power usage in an unprecedented manner.
· Tri-Source© Heating and cooling systems - Utilizing logical temperature control techniques, Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces©, Vertiline Pro Heaters© in conjunction with proper air return and insulation techniques the need to draw power from outside the unit is reduced to almost nothing even in the winter months.
· Aquamation© Water Systems - Capture and filtering of water from heavy rain to simple dew, in conjunction with in house grey water recycling will insure that the need for outside water can be almost eliminated and waste water reduced to less than 10%. Instant on hot water heaters in combination with water flow power creation systems will also insure minimum power consumption to heat water within the unit.
This report details plans to renovate the 93 year old Campbell Company Homes into Envirominiums© a 100% energy efficient design. A 3 year study done at this site will show that its basic construction, in conjunction with its location not only makes it geographically and structurally superior, but a most logical choice based on its history as well. The designs used are applicable to any construction new or old however and can convert any structure of any size.
Our current structures are solid pre-fab concrete buildings giving us both ease of renovation but great insulation as well. We must also point out that as they are solid concrete in floors ceilings inside and outside walls, they are built to stand the test of time.
Our location overlooking the Mahoning Valley gives certain advantages regarding amounts of sun and wind in our area that measurably improve power production.
When the Company Homes in Campbell Ohio Opened they were the first modern apartment complex on the entire planet. Complete with hot and cold running water, electricity and gas, they were truly a Modern Marvel rivaled only by Gunkanjima, Japan http://www.dirjournal.com/info/abandoned-places-in-the-world/ Japan’s first large concrete building, a block of apartments built in 1916 to accommodate their burgeoning ranks of workers (many of whom were forcibly recruited laborers from other parts of Asia). The Company homes were not only superior in design, but in services and in sprit as well. Gunkanjima was not equipped with the modern day conveniences that the Company Homes enjoyed, and all the residents of the Company Homes were very glad to be there.
As you can see, this is truly a unique and incredible location to build the world’s first truly energy independent community utilizing Envirominium© Technologies.
As
with Every floor the basement will have a Digital Thermostat to control
temperature. 1st and 2nd floors will have separate
thermostats in each room to achieve maximum efficiency in the heating and
cooling.
Also contained in the basement will be the 110VAC and 12 VDC Control Panel Systems, Battery Packs, Power Inverters and Meter Return Systems that make up the heart of Quadraficient© Power Production system.
The Room Marked sto is Water Storage and will be for clean water. The room marked P is Processing and will contain the grey water processing and reclamation equipment, water filtration systems, as well as small hydroelectric power generation.
Complete diagrams are included below. Please note these designs are copyrighted intellectual property and should be treated as such.

In
the diagrams to the left there are
certain components which will need further description.
To process separate 24 VDC and 110 VAC currents that operate the home two separate and unique control panels will be installed. We shall examine the 12 VDC panel first as it is considerably more complex than the 110 VAC panel.
Two 24 VDC feeds will come in via solar panels and a small wind generator to a charge controller. The charge controller will split power from the feeds to the battery packs and the fuse panel until the batteries are fully charged. Once the batteries are fully charged all power will be diverted to the fuse panel.
From the fuse panel power is directed to running 24 VDC lighting in the form of LED Illumination, 24VDC appliances and other necessities in the home. The panel also feeds power to the 110 VAC Inverter Controller. Power inversion which is now just starting to be used is an essential component to create a truly usable power system from combined non-intrusive natural resources.
Power inversion is essential in our system as we utilize 110 VAC components such as Instant on Hot water Heaters and our own Vertiline Pro Heaters©. Currently these are the only AC power consumers in the unit. DC (12V/24V) appliances are preferred although AC Stereo/TV and cooking appliances may be used.
Our power systems success is based on factors of more informed usage such as simple conservation, shutting off lights etc. Motion detection devices, light/dark sensors, digital thermostats and other technologies now readily available and inexpensive make initial costs reasonable and enable drastic reduction is energy usage.
As we progress through each aspect of this design you will see how the specialized water and home heating systems integrate with this system to insure that power creation is not only maximized but how it is properly directed to where it is needed at optimal performance.
Now lets examine the 110 VAC panel.
First is an Inverter Relay Control Panel. This panel monitors power coming from the inverters and feeds a signal to the power controller to insure that in cases where the home needs to draw power from the pole that it does not back feed through the system causing damage to other components. This basically isolates the entire system from power coming from the pole once the home begins to draw outside current.
Obviously the incoming power controller is self explanatory and is standard in most alternate power systems. The controller will continue to allow power to be drawn from the system and will feed a 110 VAC power output back into the grid whenever there is an excess thus generating income but will cut off the internal system completely and begin drawing power from the outside world when the battery bank is depleted to within 5% of total discharge +/- 2%. As a note, when power generation resumes, either via wind, sun etc, the charge controller will continue to feed power to the battery banks until they are 100% fully charged. Then and only then can the inverter controller turn on the inverters to produce the 110 VAC back feed to the electric company. The controller will stop incoming power from the outside world when the battery system is charged to 40% and there is a self generated power feed of at least 60%
According to our survey’s of wind/sunlight availability in our area the battery bank should remain fully charged approximately 60% of the time during the summer months and 40% during the winter. At times during our longest summer days an 80% or better charge rate may occur depending on power usage in the home during that time period. An unanticipated effect of this system is allowing one to take a summer vacation at peak times and come home to a nice paycheck for power produced by the living unit.
· Proper heating and cooling begins with separate control units in each room as opposed to one thermostat for an entire unit. Utilizing digital thermostats in conjunction with our Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© and Vertiline Pro Heaters© it is possible to heat the spaces you need while allowing unused spaces to remain cooler. (i.e upstairs bedroom(s) will be cooler during the day while your living room/kitchen area will be warmer for comfort, basement will remain cool unless it is being used etc.).
· New doors and windows (Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© where applicable) will be crucial in assuring that heating and cooling is done with maximum efficiency.
Current heating technologies are totally inadequate. Even a small living unit can benefit from room to room control using electric baseboard heating systems but even those have a major design problem. Most baseboard space in a home has furniture against it thereby making baseboard heating difficult to place, not to mention installation issues. Our Vertiline Pro Heaters© push warm air toward the floor insuring even and complete heating. Our Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© also push their heat towards the floor lowering the need to turn on their Vertiline Pro Heater© Counterparts .
Below is a basic design cut away and a photo recreation of what a finished Vertiline Pro Heater© would resemble. The unit combines 110 VAC heating in combination with a 12 VDC High Output fan to maximize efficiency while minimizing power consumption.

By placing these heaters in opposing corners, it will be more than enough to heat each room and in rooms utilizing Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© these units will see minimal usage
These units will be hard wired to a digital thermostat except in rooms where Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© are in use. Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© are capable of controlling Vertiline Pro Heaters© via infrared remote. This logical integration is the heart of our Quadraficient© Power Production system.
To think this design started with a curtain rod and a garbage bag is almost absurd, and in my last revision I was not far from that. How I came to this leap of technology I present to you hear today is beyond my understanding. I introduce to you, my pride and joy, the Thermatic Solar Window Furnace.

As you can see this is a simple double pane window, with a few modifications. The top channels of each actual window contain micro fans. Air is heated inside the panes of glass in one of two ways. In this diagram we show our Therma Blind© design. Simply a Therma Blind© is a heavy black plastic pull out that will absorb the heat of the sun and superheat the air in between the glass layers. When this air reaches a temperature that is both higher than the room temperature, higher than the thermostat temperature, and high enough to sustain continued warming, micro-fans will turn on and begin to circulate new air into the heating chamber as hot air is pushed out the bottom of the window through inward vents.
A premium window design would include Privacy Glass/ Electrically Frosted Glass which changes by running an electric current through it. At this point, economically simple pull blinds similar to those used in window AC units would suffice.
These window units are obviously only effective where sunlight will hit the window directly at least 30% of the day. Yes only 30% direct sunlight (sunlight hitting window unit in full view) is required. This window unit will produce heat in 40% view of direct sunlight and improves dramatically when an additional outdoor reflection panel is installed.
One great feature of this window is the ability to control our Vertiline Pro Heaters© Each window unit contains a small rechargeable battery that maintains the digital control system. The window unit has an infrared thermometer to optimally measure room temperature. It also contains an infrared sending unit that can turn on and off our Vertiline Pro Heaters© thus eliminating the need for a digital thermostat in any room using one of our Thermatic Solar Window Furnaces© and totally maximizing the use of all natural non-intrusive resources.
The use of Therma Blinds© to produce heat within the glass chambers allows for both aesthetics as well as functionality. As stated earlier there are electronic solutions to produce heat inside the chambers but the ability to both see through the window and use it as a heat source must be considered. Therma blinds are easily opened and closed in order to produce heat or provide cooling. A future addition to this design is a two way vent that can pull off heat to the outside during the summer to allow for easier cooling within the home.
The
power source for this marvelous system resides on the outside of the window.
Traditional trim is replaced with simple solar striping to produce more than
enough energy to power the unit. Power distribution, as well as fan and
temperature control within the window is done by the control strip installed in
the side of the unit as pictured in the above diagram. Sensors in the control
panel insure that both enough light and heat are present before the window
furnace activates. The micro fans installed to move air through the unit will
be variable speed in order to maximize heat output and minimize power
consumption. This system is unprecedented in its efficiency and in conjunction
with our Vertiline Pro Heaters© it is a true first step towards energy
independence for the world.
The installation of water holding units with a combined capacity of at least 500 gallons is recommended for a proper water system. This system would receive water from spouting systems and run through bio filters and funneled to fresh water storage system.
A unique addition to our water storage, filtration and reclamation is our hygenerator© System. Hygenerators© will be placed in the fresh water downspout in order to generate power as rain water is input into the system as well as in the sewer drain before it hits the grey water system. Falling/Moving water is an easy way to turn a small electric generator. This small amount of power may seem small, but its input into the system insures all possible power that can be drawn is.
Below is the design for the prototype based on the Campbell Company Homes. Once again these units are the perfect choice as not only are they great structures to start with but also have existing sewer and drainage systems that are in superior condition thus saving thousands on implementation costs.

Note in the above design the single cold water line running throughout the unit. In our system water is heated via instant on hot water units put in place at each point where hot water is required. Once again although this raises initial renovation costs slightly, it completely pays for itself within a matter of months based on energy saved by only heating water when and where it is needed. An interesting side note of this system is the removal of temperature fluctuations within the unit. (i.e. although water pressure may change in the shower if the washing machine turns on, toilet is flushed etc. the water temperature will remain the same as the water is being heated at the point of use so cold water pressure in the main line will drop both hot and cold water pressure evenly)
As you can see the main sewer line in the unit (dark brown) is being diverted into our AquaPress© gray water extraction system. This device squeezes all the liquid out of the wastewater into our AquaGrey© Filtration unit. These advanced 8 level filtration system is based on Spring House Filter technologies and includes infrared, ultraviolet and other advanced treatment techniques.
You will note that there are two separate water lines in this design. We show a separate water line here for grey water that is only used to wash clothes and flush the toilet. This insures that no recycled water is used for cooking or for showering/bathing purposes to prevent any contact with contaminants that could ever make it through the filtration system.
Currently most individuals are not comfortable with the thought of showering/bathing in water that was recovered from their own drainage system and definitely not with drinking and cooking with it, although that is similar to how current waste water treatment systems in every city work, just on a smaller scale. If future designs were to incorporate the total use of gray water residents would have to begin a regimen of using all natural cleaning supplies including such items as dish soap bathroom cleaners and the use of chemical drain cleaners would definitely be prohibited.
As wastewater flows into the AquaPress© unit it spins a waterwheel built into the drain pipe that turns a Hygenerator© pushing 24 VDC power into the battery system. Once in the AquaPress© it is processed into a nearly dry compound secured in an interchangeable chamber that can be cleaned and reinserted into the unit when it reaches its maximum capacity. The liquid portion of the waste is pushed through the AquaGrey© filtration system and into the gray water storage tank. Not pictured here is a garbage disposal that is used to grind all non recyclable kitchen waste so it will flow freely through the drain and into the system. I have purposely left out detailed designs for the AquaPress©, as well as the AquaGrey© filtration unit. These systems use non-obvious design innovations that would require a sincere interest in producing Envirominiums© at our proposed test site in order to see their design configurations.
Last but not least is the Green Line for rain water filtration and storage. Rain water is funneled in via spouting through a large drain sized pipe through another Hygenerator© adding another feed to the power reserve charging system. This water is stored in an upper level tank as it begins to run through our AquaGreen© pre-filter. This filter is not nearly as complex as our gray water filter as rain water is easily filtered into clean potable water. After filtration clean potable water for use in cooking etc. is then stored in the bottom fresh water storage tank.
Water storage at our test site would be done differently than pictured
in this design as our test structures are completely made out of solid concrete
allowing us to build water storage rooms that can be separated for grey water
storage, pre-filtered rain water, and fresh water thus insuring a steady and
even water supply even over times of unusually low rainfall.
As with the electrical systems, the water systems in these units would remain connected to city systems in the event that outside power and/or water is needed, however from our studies and the proper implementation of these technologies, it is our belief that need will be non-existent.
There are no guarantees as to exact power production or usage, as until we begin to build and live in these units, no one will truly know what the exact parameters will be. I can assure you however, that building these units, and building them using our incredible pre-existing structures would be both profitable, and more environmentally friendly than anything that has come before it.
I implore you to review this plan and think about where our future lies, if we do not begin to embrace technologies that allow us to become independent of fossil fuels.
This concludes my synopsis of Environminium© Technologies. It is my hope that someone will read this report and help us realize this vision at our test site. In 1918 the Youngstown Sheet and Tube changed the world when they built the first Modern apartment complex ever created. We now have the opportunity to change the world again by rebuilding it into the world’s first self sufficient community.
